This feels wrong. Really wrong. But that’s where we are now. We’re in the era of a pandemic, and we’re trying to run our business, support our family, and just plain keep sane. So I’m here to make the “run our business” part of it a little easier. Here’s some tips that apply to every industry, and are tried and true ways to take care of your customers, make some sales, and stay sane during this unprecedented time.
Be nice.
It’s easy to be grumpy in these times. We’re all stressed and upset for any billion number of reasons we have to be upset. The important thing to remember, I think, is that we are all in this together! (Well, most of us at least. Focus on the “most of us”). Remember the old adage, “The customer is always right”? This applies now more than ever. Be nice to your customers now, in times of need, and they will remember you for a lifetime.
Give back & support your neighbors.
In a time when we’re constantly on social media - scrolling, scrolling, mindless scrolling - we often see so many people who need our help, but it feels so overwhelming and we end up not helping anyone. (guilty!) As selfish as it sounds, giving back is one of the best ways to make yourself feel good. So, “sh*t or get off the pot” (as my mom famously says) and pick a person or organization that needs your help and do it - in any way you can. As a business, you’re no stranger to giving back to your community - so do this, but in a big way. Donate, volunteer, or advocate. You will no doubt receive some positive PR - or at a minimum, some good karma juju coming back to you.
Offer a discount.
Your customers are struggling, hell, we’re all struggling. But your customers still need your product. Maybe it’s time to rephrase your sales pitch in a way that reflects these modern times. How are you helping. Do you save time… money… resources… ? Now’s the time to tell your customers everything you can do for them, and heck I’ll even give you a discount! Now that’s an offer I can’t refuse.
Take a break.
If this all feels too overwhelming still… then take a break! It’s ok, really. We’re caught up in the rate race / business is booming mentality, but forget to put the same energy and time into our physical and mental well being. If you need a sign to take the afternoon off - here it is! I grant you the power to take back control of your workday.
We sure are in unprecedented times, and there’s no one right or wrong way to do anything. Have a question or want to vent about a business struggle? Drop us a line! We’ve got a bit more time on our hands these days… 👉 sunflowergraphicdesign@gmail.com.
